Our fundamental aim with our dark bees is striving to produce a dark / black bee that is commercially viable selecting from the best of our stocks and local genetic material with recent years increasingly selecting a preference towards AMM stock and selecting for varroa sensitive traits, whilst we cannot guarantee genetic purity with our dark bees especially when open mated, we are striving to achieve a dark bee that is genetically a significant proportion of AMM (british black bee). For 2026 we are working on new lines, with having already produced some breeder queens from Colonsay black bees, and further breeding from our own Hexham/ Northumberland lines.
