About
Abhainn Dearg (pronounced Aveen Jarræk, Gaelic for 'Red River') was founded in 2008 by Mark Tayburn near the village of Uig on the Isle of Lewis — making it Scotland's most westerly distillery and the first legal whisky distillery in the Outer Hebrides in nearly 170 years. Tayburn designed and built the distinctive copper pot stills himself, modelled on an illicit still he discovered on the island. Bottlings of Abhainn Dearg single malt are scarce and highly collectable, appearing sporadically since the inaugural 2011 three-year-old release.
