About
Auchtermuchty's Stratheden Distillery was established in 1829 by Alexander Bonthrone and operated for almost a century using Orkney peat and sherry casks to produce its distinctive malt. Forced to close in 1926 as Prohibition devastated export demand, its legacy survives in local street names and warehouse buildings; today it is commemorated through the Lost Distillery Company's Stratheden blended malt.
